Description of formula according to Chinese Medicine:

Dang gui:

(Radicis Angelicae Sinensis) Tonifies blood deficiencies that include blurred vision, pale complexion, brittle nails, dry hair, dizziness, and palpitations. Dang gui is considered to be a blood tonic and nourishes the blood.

He shou wu:

(Radix Polygoni Muliflori) This herb is one of the best tonics, as it is warm yet not drying, tonifying yet not stagnating like other tonics. Replenishes the essence and nourishes the blood.

Bai shao:

(Radix Paconiae Alba) Nourishes the blood for those with blood deficiencies.

Shu di huang:

(Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) Treats blood deficiency and the consequent lack of nourishment to the Liver and Heart. Proper circulation of blood is dependent on the volume of blood being circulated. In anemic or blood deficient patients, there is insufficient blood to nourish the organs.

Chuan xiong:

(Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong) Activates Qi and blood circulation. It is also added to blood tonic herbs to prevent any stagnation.

Dang shen:

(Radix Codonopsis) Dang shen is associated with an increase in red blood cells and hemoglobin. It tonifies the Spleen and Stomach to enhance their transportation and transformation functions. It is commonly used to treat qi deficiency characterized by fatigue, lack of appetite, weak extremities.

Ren shen:

(Radix Ginsing) Greatly tonifes the Qi and Spleen. Treating for fatigue, lack of energy, sallow complexion, listlessness. Ren shen tonifes and enhances the production of blood.

Mu dan pi:

(Cortex Moutan) Anemia can cause bruising and purpura. This herb can invigorate blood circulation and clear heat.

Huang qi:

(Radix Astragali) Qi and blood deficiencies. This imbalance is characterized by sallow facial appearance, dizziness, vertigo, lack of energy, palpitations and insomnia. Since qi is the leader of blood, tonification of qi enhances the production of blood.

Gou qi zi:

(Folium Lycii) Decoction of Gou qi zi has been shown to increase the production of red blood cells and white blood cells. Immunostimulant, it increases phagocytic activity of the macrophages and the total number of T cells.
