This herbal formula is for chronic constipation with deficiency or excess with symptoms such as:

Description of formula according to Chinese Medicine:

Hou po:

(Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis) Treats food stagnation that leads to qi stagnation that impairs the normal transformation and transportation functions. This causes poor digestion, abdominal pain and constipation.

Bai zi ren:

(Semen Platyeladi) Moistens the intestines and unlocks the bowels. Constipation or dry stools in the elderly, anemic or postpartum patients.

Zhi ke:

(Fructus Aurantii) Activates qi circulation to relieve abdominal distention and pressure. The qi-regulating function of Zhi ke is mild, and is most helpful for patients who are weak or deficient.

Tai zi shen:

(Radix Pseudostellariae) Promotes generation of body fluids and is a mild tonic especially useful in cases where patients are so deficient that they cannot fully benefit from strong tonics. Clinical applications include fatigue, lack of energy, dry mouth, no appetite.

Da huang: (

Radix et Rhixoma Rhei) Treats constipation and moves the stool, works by moving the stool downward for easy elimination. Also used for epigastric distention, fullness and abdominal pain that worsens with pressure and palpation.

Sang shen zi:

(Fructus Mori) Lubricates the intestines. Constipation caused by dryness. Lack of nourishment to the bowels leads to dry stools or constipation. Sang shen zi nourishes yin and blood to lubricate the large intestine and promote bowel movement.

Mai men dong:

(Radix Ophioposonis) Intestinal dryness is a major cause of constipation, Mai men dong nourishes yin lubricates the intestines and promotes bowel movement.

Jue ming zi: (

Semen Cassiae) Moistens the bowels, clears heat to treat dry stools and acute or chronic constipation arising from heat or dryness.

He shou wu:

Increase intestinal peristalsis, moistens the bowel and promotes bowel movement.

Lu cha:

Is used to harmonize the formula.

Dosage: Take one tea bag and place it in hot water, let steep for 10 min. Add 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink one cup in the morning and 1 cup before bed.
