Description of herbal formula according to Chinese Medicine:

Bai zhu:

(Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) Tonifies Qi and strengthens the Spleen and Stomach to treat decreased food intake, loose stools and diarrhea. This herb has excellent functions to treat diarrhea by drying dampness and strengthening the spleen.

Fu ling:

(Poria) Spleen qi deficiency is the leading cause of accumulation of dampness in the body. This herb strengthens and tonifies the spleen to treat edema, loose stools, fatigue, poor appetite and lack of energy.

Bian dou:

(Semen Lablab Album) Clears heat and dampness. Dissolves dampness without drying fluids. It is most suitable for weak, chronic or convalescing patients who cannot digest heavy tonics. It is usually the tonic herb of choice to use before administering stronger ones. Clinical applications include fatigue, lack of energy, decreased intake of food, loose stools and diarrhea.

Huang lian:

(Rhizoma Coptidis) It is commonly used to treat diarrhea or dysentery that may or may not contain pus or blood, burning sensations of the anus after defecation, foul smelling stools, rectal tenesmus, feelings of incomplete evacuation, abdominal pain, epigastria distention and fullness.

Huang qi:

(Radix Astragali) This is a great tonic herb. Used for Spleen qi deficiency and tonifes the defensive qi to protect the body and improve the immune system. Regulates water circulation, and numbness of the muscles caused by insufficient nourishment of the qi and blood.

Ge gen:

(Radix Puerariae) Raises the yang qi of the spleen to stop diarrhea. It generates fluids to replenish the loss of water due to diarrhea. It also works with intestinal flu or traveler’s diarrhea.

Huang qin:

(Radix Scutellariae) Clears damp heat in the intestines to relieve burning sensations, feelings of incomplete defecation and frequent urges to defecate. It also relieves pain by reducing inflammation and infection.

Shen qu:

(Massa Fermentata) Harmonizes the middle Jiao to relieve possible nausea and vomiting.

Recommended to drink 2-4 cups of tea daily.
