Herbal Formula for Indigestion
Indigestion, also known as Dyspepsia, is a broad description of several different stomach ailments. Under the indigestion umbrella are conditions such as acid reflux, heartburn, bloating, and gastritis. Essentially, indigestion is the result of consuming too many spicy, fibrous, or fatty foods too quickly.
The stomach’s acids become temporarily overwhelmed and the churning liquids may be sent back up through a portion of the esophagus, a process called reflux. This is often called heartburn. Some of the symptoms maybe:

- Indigestion
- Bloating
- Belching
- Acid reflux
Description of the herbal formula according to herbal medicine:
Rhizoma Atractylodis: Dries dampness and strengthens the spleen that can lead to epigastria and abdominal fullness and distention, nausea, vomiting, loose stools, and a heavy feelings in the stomach region.
Fructus Hordei Germinatus: Strengthens the spleen and stomach to enhance their function of transformation and transportation. It is especially effective to promote digestion of starches, such as rice, noodles, wheat, yams and potatoes. It contains many different enzymes to facilitate digestion of starches and carbohydrates.
Semen Raphani: Promotes digestion by treating food stagnation and indigestion typified by epigastria and abdominal fullness and distention, belching, acid reflux and diarrhea.
Fructus Crataegi: Promotes digestion eliminates food stagnation and is particularly useful against manifestations of epigastria and abdominal fullness, digestion, pain and diarrhea. It is especially effective to promote digestion of oily, greasy and fatty foods.
Folium Camelia Sinensis: Contains tannic acid that can inhibit the spread of bacteria and therefore neutralize the minor toxins present in many foods. Drinking this tea can kill many of the bacteria and toxins that may cause indigestion.
Tumeric: Is an antioxidant and is a great alternative therapy for gastrointestinal problems
Fennel: Soothing muscles in the stomach and intestines to help relieve gassiness that’s from acid reflux.
Ginger: Is warming and calming to the digestion, anti-nausea and anti-microbial to many common stomach bugs.
Calendula: Is commonly used to help remedy peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and IBS.
Chamomile: Can also help treat digestive issues such as IBS diarrhea, colic and upset stomach.
Marshmallow root: Treats a wide range of digestive conditions including constipation, heartburn and indigestion.
Plantain: Its a rich source of fiber, vitamins A, C, and B-6 and the minerals magnesium and potassium.
Fructus Setariae Germinatus: Dissolves food stagnation, promotes digestion. It is preferred for patients with indigestion and poor appetite.
Radix Astragali: It is essential in rebuilding the gastrointestinal systems.
Endoconcha Sepiae: Neutralizes stomach acid and relieves pain caused by acid regurgitation with burning sensation in the stomach or epigastria pain.
Radix Paeoniae Alba: Used to neutralize excessive stomach acid and ease heartburn.
Radix Scutellariae: It is also been shown through research to be effective against Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria known to cause gastric ulcers.
Peppermint: To calm the stomach and eliminate gas.
Green Tea: To help digest food, relieve heartburn and harmonize this formula.
This tea should be taken with each meal or 2-4 times daily.
